Mitsubishi Lancer to japoński samochód osobowy, początkowo klasy niższej średniej, a obecnie – klasy średniej, produkowany przez koncern Mitsubishi Motors. Samochód po raz pierwszy został zaprezentowany szerokiej publiczności w 1972 r. w toku Tokio Motor Show. Jego produkcja wystartowała rok później i trwa nadal z przeznaczeniem na rynek tajwański i chiński. Prze ten okres była realizowana w kilku miastach na świecie, między innymi w: Kurashiki w Japonii, Normal w USA czy Taoyuan na Tajwanie. Model Lancer został opracowany i wdrożony do produkcji w celu poszerzenia oferty handlowej koncernu Mitsubishi Motors, jak również w celu uzupełnienia luki w tej ofercie, która powstała pomiędzy modelem Minica (autem typu kai-car przeznaczonym na rynek japoński), a modele Galant, czyli autem klasy średniej i wyższej-średniej. Samochód odniósł niemały sukces i już od początku zasłynął sporą niezawodnością. Renomę tego modelu powiększyła jeszcze wersja 1600GSR, która w latach 70. XX wieku odnosiła liczne sukcesy w rajdach samochodowych. Warto dodać, że również kolejne wersje Lancera kontynuowały tę chlubną tradycję zapoczątkowaną przez wersję 1600GSR. To wszystko sprawiło, że kierownictwo Mitsubishi Motors zdecydowało o dalszej produkcji i doskonaleniu tego modelu. Ostatnia, VIII generacja, modelu Lancer została zaprezentowana w 2007 r. i była produkowana do 2016 roku.

Mitsubishi Lancer is a Japanese passenger car, originally of the lower-middle class and now of the middle class, produced by Mitsubishi Motors conglomerate. The car was first presented to the general public in 1972 during the Tokyo Motor Show. Its production took off a year later and continues today for the Taiwanese and Chinese markets. Through this period, it was realized in several cities around the world, including: Kurashiki in Japan, Normal in the US and Taoyuan in Taiwan. The Lancer model was developed and put into production in order to expand Mitsubishi Motors' commercial offerings, as well as to fill the gap in these offerings, which was created between the Minica model (a kai-car intended for the Japanese market) and the Galant models, a mid- to upper-middle-class car. The car was quite a success and became famous for its considerable reliability from the very beginning. The reputation of this model was further augmented by the 1600GSR version, which enjoyed much success in rallying in the 1970s. It is worth mentioning that subsequent versions of the Lancer also continued the glorious tradition started by the 1600GSR version. All this made the management of Mitsubishi Motors decide to continue producing and improving this model. The latest, eighth-generation, Lancer model was unveiled in 2007 and was produced until 2016.
