These barrels are an ideal replacement or addition to the plastic parts provided in selected ship models of this class, offering excellent detail and accuracy in reproducing historical designs.

Historical description:

The 12in/50 Mark 8 barrels were mounted on Alaska-class large cruisers introduced into the US Navy at the end of World War II. USS Alaska (CB-1) and USS Guam (CB-2) belonged to a rare class of heavily armed large ships—the so-called "large cruisers," designed in response to the Axis powers' heavy cruisers. The 12in/50 guns were the largest artillery pieces ever to be mounted on American cruisers. These vessels took part in Pacific operations in 1945, providing gunfire support and escorting aircraft carriers during the Okinawa invasion and other late war operations.

  • Country of use: United States of America
  • Period of use: World War II
  • Historical application: combat operations in the Pacific, gunfire support during American offensives in 1945
  • Product category: metal accessories for ship models, model conversions, modeling accessories

This set is especially dedicated to advanced modelers and enthusiasts of building realistic replicas of warships. The advantage of Master metal barrels is not only their unmatched durability, but above all their level of detail and the faithful representation of the original armament, which enhances the authenticity of any model. By using SM-700-063 barrels, the modeler gains durable components, resistant to damage during processing and painting, that fit perfectly with the details of leading manufacturers' models.

Recommendation: We recommend this product for intermediate and advanced modelers who seek the highest level of realism when building historical Alaska-class vessels. Assembly difficulty: 3/5 – requires precision, patience, and proper tools, but the final effect rewards every minute of effort.

Scale
1/700

What does the scale of the model mean?

A model scale designation such as 1:30 means the model is 30 times smaller than the original. Scale indicates proportion, not resolution or detail.

  • Models with a smaller number after the colon (e.g. 1:48, 1:32) are larger and have more detail.
  • Scales with higher numbers (e.g. 1:164, 1:200, 1:350) are smaller - good for collections, dioramas, or displaying many models together.
