The CH-54A Tarhe is a heavy transport helicopter used by the United States during the Vietnam War (1960s-1970s, Cold War era), designed for transporting heavy cargo such as vehicles, construction equipment, or, as in this kit, the enormous M-121 bomb. In this model version, the CH-54A from 478 HHC (1st Cavalry Division), stationed at Phu Bai Air Base in Vietnam in the fall of 1968, has been faithfully recreated.

The M-121 bomb was used for rapid jungle clearing to prepare future helicopter landing zones. Each modified bomb was equipped with a parachute to slow its descent, and an extended fuse ensured detonation several feet above the ground to maximize its blast effect. The last M-121 bomb used in this role was detonated on August 8, 1970.
