Historical Description

The Supermarine Spitfire Mk. Vc is one of the most versatile versions of the famous British fighter. The TROP (Tropical) version was adapted for the harsh climatic conditions of North Africa and the Mediterranean by installing the characteristic “Vokes” air filter at the intake and additional protective equipment. This aircraft was used by the Royal Air Force (RAF), South African Air Force (SAAF), United States Army Air Forces (USAAF), and Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) during intense combat operations from 1942–1944, especially in the African campaign and on Malta.
