Airfix 09191 Avro Anson Mk.I 1/48 – Plastic model kit

Airfix 09191 Avro Anson Mk.I is a high-quality plastic aircraft model kit in the popular 1/48 scale, ideal for aircraft modelers interested in British military technology from the World War II and interwar period. The kit accurately reproduces the details of the historic Avro Anson Mk.I aircraft, which became an icon of British aviation.

Historical information

The Avro Anson Mk.I was a British twin-engine reconnaissance, patrol, and training aircraft used by the Royal Air Force and Royal Navy. Development of the aircraft began as early as 1933, with the first operational unit entering service in March 1936 with No. 48 Squadron at RAF Manston, becoming the first operational RAF monoplane with a retractable undercarriage. The Anson Mk.I was widely used during the interwar period as well as in World War II—notably for Coastal Command patrol duties and as a multi-engine trainer (for navigator and gunner training). This type of aircraft was also exported to other countries, including Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.

What does the scale of the model mean?

A model scale designation such as 1:30 means the model is 30 times smaller than the original. Scale indicates proportion, not resolution or detail.

  • Models with a smaller number after the colon (e.g. 1:48, 1:32) are larger and have more detail.
  • Scales with higher numbers (e.g. 1:164, 1:200, 1:350) are smaller - good for collections, dioramas, or displaying many models together.
