The model is based on the popular half-track transporter Sd.Kfz.251 variant 7, which was adapted for engineering tasks by removing one bench to increase space for equipment and installing a temporary bridge (Behelfsbrücke 5.5 m, 14 t).

Historically, these vehicles found widespread use in the German army during World War II, especially on the Eastern and Western fronts from 1943 to 1945, where they enabled rapid crossing of terrain obstacles thanks to the detachable bridge.
