StuG IV (Sturmgeschütz IV, Sd.Kfz.167) was one of the most important German assault guns produced during World War II. The vehicle was created out of the urgent need to replace losses among StuG III guns – it used the chassis of the PzKpfw IV Ausf. G tank combined with the superstructure of the StuG III, which enabled rapid production without the need to introduce an entirely new model. The StuG IV was used on all Wehrmacht fronts, especially the Eastern Front and in Western Europe. The use of a remotely operated MG 34 and grenade launchers improved the crew's defensive capabilities.
