The de Havilland Mosquito B.XVI was one of the most advanced variants of this remarkable aircraft and was known as the “Wooden Wonder” — it was built from laminated balsa and birch panels. Its construction used “non-strategic” materials for better availability and weight reduction without sacrificing strength. The B.XVI was equipped with a pressurized cockpit and capable of carrying heavy bombs, including the powerful 4,000 lb “Cookie”. The Mosquito gained a reputation as one of the fastest and most versatile aircraft of World War II, conducting precision bombing raids far behind German lines, including in the Ruhr area during 1944–1945.
The Airfix 04023 model features crisp panel lines, dimensionally accurate to the original, and a faithfully reproduced cockpit interior. The abundance of details — from the landing gear to the ailerons and rudders — guarantees realism in the finished model. The decals allow you to build one of the historical machines used by the Royal Air Force. Although the kit does not include resin or metal parts, its engineering is of a high standard and will satisfy both collectors and modelers who value authenticity.
We highly recommend this kit to all modelers: especially fans of military aviation and World War II history, both the experienced and patient enthusiasts with less experience. We rate the build difficulty at 3/5 – the kit requires precision and skill in handling a multi-part structure, but the included instructions make the assembly process much easier. This is not just a model, but also a fascinating piece of history for your collection.
