HMS Warspite – ship history
HMS Warspite was a British Queen Elizabeth-class battleship commissioned into the Royal Navy in 1915. She served during World War I, taking part in, among others, the Battle of Jutland. After the war, the ship underwent numerous modernizations, which by World War II made her one of the most advanced and effective ships of her class. A leader in many naval operations, she distinguished herself in operations in the Mediterranean (Battle of Cape Matapan) and the Normandy landings in 1944.
The vessel was in service from the First World War right through to the end of the Second World War (1915–1945). Her history is a true legend of the British Navy – she was one of the most distinguished battleships of the century.
