The .50 cal (12.7 mm) ammunition boxes recreated in this set were commonly used by the US Army during World War II. They were standard equipment for armored personnel carriers, tanks, support vehicles and logistics trucks, ensuring safe storage and quick access to vital ammunition destined, among others, for the legendary Browning M2 machine guns. The wooden pattern reproduced in the model matches the original transport crates from the era, used on all fronts – from the Normandy campaign, through the battles in Italy, to the Pacific operations.
