Historical description of Caudron CR.714 C-1

The Caudron CR.714 C-1, designed by Caudron-Renault, was a lightweight fighter aircraft, with its maiden flight in July 1938. The aircraft was powered by a Renault 12R-03 engine and armed with four 7.5 mm MAC 1934 machine guns. Serial production began in mid-1939. The CR.714 became famous mainly as a combat aircraft used by GC 1/145 – a French unit composed of Polish pilots defending France in 1940. Despite its limited performance and weak armor, the courage and determination of the pilots enabled the unit to score eight confirmed aerial victories against the Luftwaffe. After the capitulation of France, some aircraft were transferred to Finland, where they also saw combat, and one example was even tested by the Luftwaffe.
