History of the Battleship Kongo

The battleship Kongo belonged to a class of four Kongo-type ships, which were the first Japanese battleships built according to the modern "battlecruiser" concept. The ship was designed by British engineers and built in 1913 for the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN). Kongo was extensively modernized in the interwar period, and during World War II, it played a key role as a fast battleship escorting aircraft carriers and participated in battles in the Pacific, including near the Solomon Islands and the Philippines. It was sunk in 1944 after being hit by a torpedo from an American submarine.

Advantages of the Fujimi Model

  • Exceptionally accurate reproduction of the hull, superstructures, and armament
  • High level of detail in small components, such as radars, lifeboats, or anti-aircraft guns
  • Possibility for individual paintwork thanks to detailed decals
  • Popular 1/700 scale – ideal for fleet building and collecting ship models
  • Can be upgraded with photo-etched parts like railings or a wooden deck (optional, sold separately)

Scale
1/700

What does the scale of the model mean?

A model scale designation such as 1:30 means the model is 30 times smaller than the original. Scale indicates proportion, not resolution or detail.

  • Models with a smaller number after the colon (e.g. 1:48, 1:32) are larger and have more detail.
  • Scales with higher numbers (e.g. 1:164, 1:200, 1:350) are smaller - good for collections, dioramas, or displaying many models together.
