RS Models 92226 Ki-86/K9W1 Japanese Type 4 Primary Trainer 1/72 – plastic model kit

RS Models 92226 Ki-86/K9W1 Japanese Type 4 Primary Trainer in 1/72 scale is a high-quality plastic model kit representing the Japanese training aircraft from World War II. The kit is made from precisely reproduced plastic parts that faithfully reflect the original construction details of the training aircraft, also known as the Kyushu K9W1 or Mitsubishi Ki-86.

Historical Information

The Ki-86/K9W1 Japanese Type 4 Primary Trainer aircraft was developed under license from the German Bücker Bü 131 Jungmann. In Japan, it became the basic training aircraft for the Imperial Army Air Forces and the Imperial Navy. Production started on Kyushu Island in 1943, and the aircraft was widely used until Japan's surrender in 1945. As the war intensified, it became one of the few aircraft on which Japanese pilots acquired basic piloting skills before being assigned to combat squadrons.

Why choose RS Models 92226 in 1/72 scale?

The RS Models 92226 kit is a great choice for modelers interested in World War II aviation and the history of the Japanese air forces. Thanks to its excellent detailing and precisely manufactured parts, the set is suitable for both intermediate and advanced aircraft modelers. The difficulty level is estimated at 3/5 – basic experience with assembling plastic models and manual skills are required, especially when working with small cockpit parts and rigging.

I recommend this product to all modelers passionate about aviation history, collectors of training military aircraft models, and those who want to add a unique training airplane from the Far East front to their collection.

Scale
1/72

What does the scale of the model mean?

A model scale designation such as 1:30 means the model is 30 times smaller than the original. Scale indicates proportion, not resolution or detail.

  • Models with a smaller number after the colon (e.g. 1:48, 1:32) are larger and have more detail.
  • Scales with higher numbers (e.g. 1:164, 1:200, 1:350) are smaller - good for collections, dioramas, or displaying many models together.
