Historical Description – King Tiger Initial Production

The Tiger II, more widely known as the King Tiger (Königstiger), was the heaviest tank to see combat service with the German Army during World War II. The first Initial Production examples appeared on both the Eastern and Western fronts as early as mid-1944. They took part in battles in Normandy, during the Falaise Pocket, and in the Ardennes. Renowned for its nearly impenetrable armor and powerful KwK 43 L/71 88 mm gun, the King Tiger struck fear and respect among its adversaries.

Takom 2096 Model Highlights

  • The model reflects the distinctive features of the initial production vehicles, including the early so-called "Porsche Turret," specific equipment parts, and extra armor mounting points.
  • The inclusion of photo-etched parts enables extremely realistic detailing, e.g., periscope covers, mesh screens, and small elements.
  • High-quality sprues and precise replication of hull and turret details.
  • Segmented tracks for better tension representation and easier assembly.
  • Decals allow for various marking options—consistent with historically accurate Wehrmacht armored units.

  • Scales with higher numbers (e.g. 1:164, 1:200, 1:350) are smaller - good for collections, dioramas, or displaying many models together.
