Historical Description and Use

IJN Arashio was an Asashio-class destroyer built for the Imperial Japanese Navy and commissioned in the late 1930s. It was considered one of the most advanced ships of its type on the eve of World War II and entered service in 1937. Arashio took part in numerous naval operations in the Pacific, including the Battle of Midway and the Solomon Islands Campaign. Its service ended in 1943 after being hit by aerial bombs during combat in the New Guinea area. Asashio-class destroyers were highly valued for their significant range, powerful armament, and ability to perform both escort and torpedo attack missions.

Scale
1/700

What does the scale of the model mean?

A model scale designation such as 1:30 means the model is 30 times smaller than the original. Scale indicates proportion, not resolution or detail.

  • Models with a smaller number after the colon (e.g. 1:48, 1:32) are larger and have more detail.
  • Scales with higher numbers (e.g. 1:164, 1:200, 1:350) are smaller - good for collections, dioramas, or displaying many models together.
