Italeri 1404 FW 189 A-1/A-2 (1/72) – plastic model of a World War II reconnaissance aircraft

The Italeri 1404 FW 189 A-1/A-2 model in 1:72 scale is a precisely crafted plastic assembly model representing one of the most famous Luftwaffe reconnaissance aircraft. The Focke-Wulf Fw 189, known as the “Flying Eye of the Wehrmacht”, was widely used by Germany between 1940–1945 during World War II, mainly on the Eastern Front. Thanks to its unique twin-boom design and excellent cockpit visibility, it was an extremely effective tool for reconnaissance and artillery direction.

The Italeri 1404 set allows you to build either the Fw 189 A-1 or A-2 version, faithfully recreated based on archival documentation and photographs. The model features richly detailed surfaces, reproduced panel lines, as well as detailed crew cockpit features. The manufacturer has ensured a realistic representation of the characteristic glazed cockpit, as well as details of the engines and landing gear. The 1:72 scale allows the model to be integrated into dioramas with other vehicles and aircraft of the era.

The Fw 189 was widely used during Operation Barbarossa and in other theaters, where the efficiency of its crew in reconnaissance and directing artillery fire often provided Germans with an advantage on the battlefield. The aircraft was renowned for its extraordinary survivability and ease of piloting.

We recommend the Italeri 1404 FW 189 A-1/A-2 model for both beginner and intermediate modelers (difficulty level – 2/5). Numerous and well-fitting components allow for enjoyable assembly, and the high detail quality means the finished model looks impressive both in a collection and on a historical diorama.

By choosing an Italeri product, you get a model of an aircraft that was a true reconnaissance legend, and its unique silhouette attracts the eye of every aviation modeling and World War II history enthusiast. An ideal choice for anyone who appreciates accurately reproduced models and attention to historical detail.

What does the scale of the model mean?

A model scale designation such as 1:30 means the model is 30 times smaller than the original. Scale indicates proportion, not resolution or detail.

  • Models with a smaller number after the colon (e.g. 1:48, 1:32) are larger and have more detail.
  • Scales with higher numbers (e.g. 1:164, 1:200, 1:350) are smaller - good for collections, dioramas, or displaying many models together.
