P-61B Black Widow is an American heavy night fighter from World War II. Built by Northrop Corporation, it was the first USAAF (United States Army Air Forces) aircraft specifically designed as a night fighter equipped with its own radar. It mainly served in the United States Air Forces. The P-61B type was introduced into service in 1944, and was used intensively during night operations in Europe, the Pacific, and China. The machine became famous for intercepting and destroying German and Japanese bombers during nighttime and low-visibility conditions. It was in service until the end of the war and during the immediate postwar years, up to the late 1940s.
