Historical Description of the M3 Lee

The M3 Lee medium tank was developed by the United States at the beginning of World War II as a response to the need for a modern and well-armed armored vehicle. It was distinguished by its unusual, asymmetrical design—the main 75 mm gun was mounted in the hull, while the second, 37 mm gun, was placed in a rotating turret on the vehicle's roof. M3 Lee tanks were widely used by the US Army and the Allies, particularly on the North African and Asian fronts. An example is the participation of the M3 Lee in the Battle of Gazala (1942), where it supported British forces. The tank was actively used between 1941 and 1943, after which it was gradually replaced by the more advanced M4 Sherman.
