Master AM-48-099 De Havilland Sea Vixen – Pitot Tubes (1/48)

The Master AM-48-099 set is a high-quality modeling accessory dedicated to the 1:48 scale De Havilland Sea Vixen model. The product includes precisely turned brass pitot tubes, which are a key aviation feature of this British carrier-based fighter. This solution significantly increases the realism of any plastic model, eliminating the problem of overly thick or imprecise plastic parts provided in standard model kits.

De Havilland Sea Vixen is a twin-engine carrier-based fighter designed by de Havilland for the Royal Navy. The aircraft was operated during the Cold War era – entering service in 1959 and retiring in the 1970s. The aircraft took part in patrol missions and operations in the Middle East as well as over Aden. The Sea Vixen became known for its distinctive, unconventional cockpit layout and excellent maneuverability during carrier operations.

  • Scale: 1/48
  • Country of use: United Kingdom (Royal Navy)
  • Service period: Cold War (1959–1972)
  • Material: turned brass
  • Contents: 2 precision pitot tubes for Sea Vixen, assembly instructions
  • Category: modeling accessory set (metal parts for plastic models)
  • Compatibility: fits models by manufacturers such as Airfix, Trumpeter, or Dynavector in 1:48 scale

Assembly of the accessory is very simple and involves merely cutting off the original plastic tube, drilling a hole, and gluing the metal part in place using cyanoacrylate glue. The result is a much more durable, faithfully reproduced detail that enhances the professionalism of the replica. Optionally, you may consider using the refueling probe (AM-48-033) from the same Master company to further increase the modeling value of the aircraft.

We recommend this product to all modelers who demand the highest quality details and want to bring their models up to the level of professional aviation dioramas. The set is especially recommended for intermediate and advanced modelers – we rate the assembly difficulty level as 2/5. It is an excellent choice both for restoring older examples and for building new models for competitions.

What does the scale of the model mean?

A model scale designation such as 1:30 means the model is 30 times smaller than the original. Scale indicates proportion, not resolution or detail.

  • Models with a smaller number after the colon (e.g. 1:48, 1:32) are larger and have more detail.
  • Scales with higher numbers (e.g. 1:164, 1:200, 1:350) are smaller - good for collections, dioramas, or displaying many models together.
