Westland Whirlwind was one of the most innovative RAF fighters of the late 1930s. It was the first British single-seat, twin-engine heavy fighter armed with four 20 mm cannons, delivering tremendous firepower. The aircraft was primarily used as an escort and ground attack fighter, especially by RAF squadrons 263 and 137. It stood out for its sleek profile, high maximum speed, and unprecedented firepower for the era. Unfortunately, development delays of the Rolls-Royce Peregrine engine limited its production to 116 units. The Whirlwind actively served on the front from 1940–1943, taking part in many missions over the English Channel.

The Trumpeter 02890 model faithfully recreates Whirlwind’s distinctive shapes and details, such as panel lines and cockpit. The kit does not include photo-etched, metal, or resin elements, but the transparent cockpit parts and the detail of the plastic components offer a high level of realism.
