The Puma Combat Engineers heavy APC (Armored Personnel Carrier) is used by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) as an assault vehicle for supporting the breakthrough of the maneuvering forces. The Puma, or better designation – Pumah (Poretz Michsholim Handasi = Engineers obstacle breaker), is a conversion from the old Shot-Cal tank upgraded from the 70 year old Centurion MBT. The turret was removed from the tank and a large protected fighting compartment was built for the Combat Engineers troops.
