Special Hobby 72440 model 139WC/WSM/WT 'Chinese, Siamese and Turkish Service' 1/72 – plastic aircraft model kit

The 139WC/WSM/WT model, offered by the renowned company Special Hobby in 1/72 scale, is a faithfully reproduced plastic model of a bomber aircraft that served in three different air forces – China, Siam (now Thailand), and Turkey. The set focuses on versions of the American-made aircraft, originally known as the Martin 139, which was adapted to different user requirements in each country.

The 139WC/WSM/WT model was a development of the famous Martin B-10 bomber – one of the most innovative aircraft of the interwar period. It was the world's first mass-produced, all-metal bomber with retractable landing gear and an enclosed cockpit. This design marked a technological breakthrough in military aviation, serving as an exporter of American technology. The 139WC/WSM/WT versions entered service in the 1930s and were operated just before and at the beginning of World War II, taking part in combat mainly in the Far East and the Middle East region.

  • Scale: 1/72 – enables detailed historical recreation in compact form.
  • Operator countries: China – used in combat during the war with Japan; Siam (Thailand) – the main bomber of the 1930s; Turkey – part of air force modernization during the interwar period and WWII.
  • Historical period: 1930s, early World War II, interwar years.
  • Material: high-quality plastic; the kit does not include resin or metal parts (frames with plastic parts and decals for three national versions are included).
  • Category: Plastic aircraft model kit – intended for modelers seeking rare paint schemes and aviation subjects outside of the main WWII theaters.
  • Extras: Decals with authentic national insignias and an assembly manual.
  • Assembly difficulty: 3/5 – recommended for intermediate modelers due to component and camouflage complexity.
  • Model strengths: Unique selection of historical liveries, accurate reproduction of export variant details, excellently prepared decals, and clear instructions included.

We recommend the Special Hobby 72440 139WC/WSM/WT model to enthusiasts of interwar aviation and collectors of aircraft rarely seen in plastic modeling. It's also an excellent choice for builders of themed dioramas from Asia and the Middle East, or those looking for a unique project in a 1/72 collection. Carefully prepared sprues and detailed decals ensure a satisfying build and impressive final result – both on the shelf and at model competitions.

Scala
1/72
