Brief historical overview and use

The SIAI Marchetti SF-260 is an Italian training and light attack aircraft designed by engineer Stelio Frati in the 1960s. Manufactured by SIAI-Marchetti (later Aermacchi), this machine gained huge popularity worldwide thanks to its outstanding performance, durability, and excellent flying characteristics. Mainly used by military aviation as a primary trainer and light support aircraft, it found its place in the air forces of countries such as Italy, Belgium, Turkey, the United States (in a civil version), Libya, Zimbabwe, and many more.

The SF-260 was widely used from the late 1960s up to modern times in many regional conflicts, including during Libya's civil war and various UN peacekeeping operations in Africa. Its versatility and ease of adapting to either a trainer or a light combat aircraft role have made it a popular choice with armies around the world.
