History and Use of the P-38 Lightning Aircraft

The Lockheed P-38 Lightning is one of the most important American fighter designs of World War II (1939–1945). Its distinctive twin-boom fuselage and central nacelle with cockpit made the aircraft stand out among other Allied planes. The P-38F and P-38G are early versions of this legendary long-range fighter, used both on the European front and in the Pacific. P-38 aircraft took part in key operations, such as hunting down Japanese aces and escorting bombers deep into enemy territory.
