Historical Background of the V-2 Rocket

The V-2 (A4) rocket was a groundbreaking technological development – the first long-range ballistic missile used in combat in the world. Developed by German engineers under the direction of Wernher von Braun, it was introduced into service by the Wehrmacht and Luftwaffe during World War II. V-2 missiles were mainly used in attacks on London and Antwerp from September 1944. Their deployment marked a turning point in rocket technology and laid the foundation for modern space travel. Today, the A4/V2 stands as a symbol of both technological advancement and the tragic consequences of war.
