The plastic model kit Special Hobby 72493 P-40F/L Warhawk 'Desert Hawks With Merlin' in 1/72 scale is an advanced set for modelers passionate about military aviation from World War II. The reproduced P-40F/L Warhawk aircraft represents a unique version of the famous Curtiss fighter, distinguished by the use of the Rolls-Royce Merlin engine developed in Great Britain, which significantly improved the aircraft's high-altitude performance compared to earlier versions equipped with the Allison engine.

The P-40F/L Warhawk fighter was primarily used by the United States Army Air Forces (USAAF), as well as the air forces of Great Britain and the Free French. Its peak service period was between 1942–1944, taking part in operations on the North African front, including Libya, Egypt, Tunisia, and the Middle East. The aircraft played an invaluable role in the desert battles against Luftwaffe units, earning the nickname "Desert Hawk."
