Historical Background of the CANT Z.501 Gabbiano

The CANT Z.501 "Gabbiano" (Italian for seagull) was one of the most recognizable seaplanes of the Italian Regia Aeronautica. It was widely used in various reconnaissance, patrol, and rescue operations across the Mediterranean Sea. The aircraft’s first flight took place in 1934, and despite its outdated design, it served intensively during World War II until 1946, also operating over the Atlantic and Adriatic.
