Historical description:
The F-4EJ Kai is an upgraded version of the American F-4E Phantom II, adapted for the specifics of Japanese aviation by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. Upgrades were carried out in the 1980s and 1990s and included modern avionics, radar, targeting, and weapon systems. The F-4EJ Kai was used for patrol operations and the interception of unidentified aircraft in Japanese airspace, as well as during joint international maneuvers. The 302nd Tactical Fighter Squadron became well-known for its participation in demonstration formations and was the symbol of this Phantom variant until the aircraft was retired from service in 2020.
