Pz.Kpfw. I Ausf. B – history and use

The Pz.Kpfw. I Ausf. B is a German light tank used primarily by the Third Reich. Produced between 1935 and 1937, it was an evolution of the Ausf. A version, differing mainly with the use of a more powerful Maybach water-cooled engine, which necessitated elongating the rear of the hull and changing the running gear layout (five wheels, drive wheel at the rear). This tank took part in major campaigns: during the invasion of Poland in 1939 and in France in 1940. It also served during the Spanish Civil War (1936–1939). Although considered outdated in the early years of the war, the Pz.Kpfw. I was used for training purposes, as a platform for other specialized vehicles, and on secondary fronts.
