The P-51D Mustang is one of the most famous Allied fighters of World War II. The D version was distinguished by its characteristic bubble canopy, Merlin engine, and various weaponry and performance upgrades. These fighters escorted American strategic bombers over occupied Europe, breaking the Luftwaffe's dominance on the Western Front. All markings included in the kit pertain to machines flown by USAAF aces such as George Preddy (“CRIPES A´MIGHTY 3rd”), John D. Landers (“Big Beautiful Doll”), and Leonard K. Carson (“Nooky Booky II”). These aircraft took part in famous escort missions for bombing raids as well as aerial battles over France, Germany, and Great Britain.
