History and background of the vehicle

The SR-N1 Hovercraft, designed by Sir Christopher Cockerell, was the world’s first commercially operating hovercraft. It made its debut in 1959 on the waters of the English Channel and attracted immense interest from the transportation industry. The model was developed for Great Britain, but served as a demonstrator at various technological and military exhibitions across Europe. It was often presented during experimental crossings and tests, which proved its groundbreaking capabilities.

The operational period of the SR-N1 falls within the Cold War era, which makes it an extremely interesting exhibit related to the development of transportation technology in the mid-20th century. Although it mainly served research and demonstration functions, its design became the inspiration for subsequent generations of commercial and military hovercraft.
