Hasegawa HP001 Antarctic research ship Soya Second Antarctic expedition 1/250

The plastic model kit Hasegawa HP001 Antarctic research ship Soya Second Antarctic expedition 1/250 is a unique proposition for modelers interested in maritime technology and polar research. This set recreates the famous Japanese research vessel Sōya in 1/250 scale, which played a key role during the second Japanese Antarctic expedition in 1957–1958, at the time of the so-called Cold War.

Sōya was built in 1938 as a supply ship by Hakodate Dock Company for the Imperial Japanese Army. After World War II, it underwent a series of reconstructions and upgrades to become a research vessel capable of operating in the extreme Antarctic conditions. In 1956, she began serving as the main expedition ship supporting the Japanese Syowa Station in Antarctica. The second expedition (1957–1958) is remembered for dramatic events – exceptionally heavy ice prevented the evacuation of sled dogs, which resonated widely in Japan and around the world.

The Hasegawa series model is characterized by its very high-quality workmanship made from high-grade plastic. The detailing of the hull, superstructures, and deck equipment precisely reflects the features of the actual vessel. The set includes components that allow for numerous details, such as armament, communication devices, or miniature lifeboats. Also included are decals with the original paint scheme of the ship from the time of Japan’s second Antarctic expedition.

  • Scale: 1/250, assembled model length approx. 22 cm
  • Material: high-quality polystyrene plastic
  • Country: Japan
  • Historical period: Cold War, 1950s
  • Difficulty level: 3/5 – for intermediate modelers
  • Set contents: sprues with parts, clear assembly instructions, decals
  • Category: plastic model kit – ships / vessels

We recommend this product for maritime modeling enthusiasts, collectors, and anyone interested in the history of Antarctic exploration or Japanese research vessels. The Hasegawa Sōya 1/250 model allows for a faithful recreation of one of the most famous polar ships of the 20th century and will be an excellent addition to any collection. Realistic construction, detailed elements, and the ability to paint and personalize the model yourself ensure a satisfying build for both experienced and ambitious beginner modelers alike.

Maßstab
1/250
