It served as a towing vehicle for heavy anti-aircraft guns such as the Flak 88 mm, howitzers, and other artillery equipment. The vehicle made its combat debut during the 1939 Polish campaign, and its versatility and reliability meant it was deployed by German forces on almost every front of the war, including the Eastern, African, and Italian theaters.
