KFK Kriegsfischkutter was developed in response to the growing needs of the Kriegsmarine for patrol, minesweeping, and anti-submarine vessels. In a very short time, over 600 such cutters were built in various shipyards. They mainly served in the North Sea, Baltic Sea, and the waters of occupied Normandy in France. Thanks to the adaptability of these boats, their roles could be quickly changed—from minesweeper, through patrol cutter, to an anti-submarine platform equipped with hydroacoustics and effective armament (20 mm and 37 mm cannons, machine guns).
