Historical information about the La-5:

The Lavochkin La-5 was a Soviet single-engine fighter aircraft, widely used by Soviet air forces during World War II from 1942 onwards. This aircraft proved to be one of the most effective fighters on the Eastern Front, serving in both the defense of Stalingrad and offensive operations from Kursk to Berlin. The characteristic radial engine and the shape of the exhaust pipes were essential features of its appearance and recognizability among both Allied and Axis pilots.
