Historical background of the PaK.36 (r) gun

The 7.62 cm PaK.36 (r) gun is the German designation for the captured and adapted Soviet 76.2 mm F-22 anti-tank cannons. After capturing large numbers during the campaign in the USSR, the Germans began converting the F-22s to their own standards, adapting them for effective combat against Soviet T-34 and KV tanks. The PaK.36 (r) saw wide use on all fronts of World War II and, between 1941-1945, remained one of the most formidable weapons against Allied medium and heavy tanks, serving at both Stalingrad and on the Western front.
