Historical Background

The Grumman F4F-4 Wildcat was one of the most important carrier-based fighter aircraft for the United States during World War II. This aircraft entered service at the end of the interwar period and was extensively used by the US Navy and US Marine Corps from 1941, taking part in key campaigns such as the Battle of Midway and the Solomon Islands campaign. The F4F-4 variant featured folding wings and four machine guns, and precise rendering of its features—including the landing gear—is important for any aviation enthusiast interested in this era.
