Historical information
The Avro Anson Mk.I was a British twin-engine reconnaissance, patrol, and training aircraft used by the Royal Air Force and Royal Navy. Development of the aircraft began as early as 1933, with the first operational unit entering service in March 1936 with No. 48 Squadron at RAF Manston, becoming the first operational RAF monoplane with a retractable undercarriage. The Anson Mk.I was widely used during the interwar period as well as in World War II—notably for Coastal Command patrol duties and as a multi-engine trainer (for navigator and gunner training). This type of aircraft was also exported to other countries, including Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.
