Ultimately, after several design and prototype phases, work on the basic version was suspended in July 1944 in favor of the Jagdpanzer IV L/70 tank destroyer. The Pz.Kpfw III/IV hybrids with small turrets therefore represent an interesting episode in the history of late-war German armored technology.
