Historical Information

The M1114 HMMWV model was developed in response to the increased threat from mines and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) during military operations, mainly in Iraq and Afghanistan in the early 21st century. The variant equipped with the Interim Fragmentation Kit 5 provided additional ballistic protection for the crew, which was crucial for patrol, escort, and combat missions. The GPK Turret allowed for effective use of machine guns while protecting the gunner.

The vehicle was widely used from the early 2000s to the present day by units of the U.S. Army, USMC, and other American formations, as well as by United States allies. It took part in numerous operations, including Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.
