Historical Description and Use

The Sopwith Camel Comic is a night-fighter version of the legendary Sopwith Camel, which entered service in Britain in 1917. This modified aircraft was used mainly by the Royal Flying Corps and Royal Air Force to combat German airships and night aviation during World War I. The Comic modification consisted in relocating the armament to the upper wing to improve pilot visibility during attacks with night illumination and to prevent blinding flashes that could interfere with operations. The Sopwith Camel Comic played a significant role in protecting British cities from Zeppelin attacks.
