Historical information

The Avia S-199 was a Czech fighter aircraft produced after World War II by the Avia factories in Czechoslovakia. It was based on the German Messerschmitt Bf 109G design; however, due to limited access to original Daimler-Benz engines, it was fitted with the Jumo 211F engine (used, among others, in Heinkel He 111 bombers). These aircraft were mainly used between 1947-1957 by the air forces of Czechoslovakia and Israel, where they played an important role during the War of Independence in 1948.
